The As Yet Un-named War

After more than three weeks of "fighting" and still less than 1000 casualties total, perhaps this "war" doesn't really deserve a name yet. But it is worth noting that Israel has employed the public relations/marketing tools of named "operations " many times before, especially in regards to actions in Lebanon. A short list:

Operation Litani 1978
Operation Peace of Galilee 1982
Operation Accountability 1993
Operation Grapes of Wrath 1996

Even "operations" as small as ten F-15's attacking Tunisia in 1985 had a name. (Operation 'Wooden Leg')

As I believe that the current "operation" will continue in some form (diminished or expanded) till well past the U.S. elections in November, here is a list of names for Israel, or the Media, to consider:

* denotes non-shs authorship

*Operation "Get Even"
*Operation "Summer Slaughter"
Operation "Grapes of Pride"
Operation "Grapes of Embarassment"
Operation "Purge Inventory"
Operation "Look Over Here, Not Over There"
Operation "Save the GOP Congress"
Operation "Kill the Road Map"

I could go on and on, and surely some future event will give this "splendid little war" a proper name for the history books. But for now it must remain nameless.

A "different kind of war" indeed.
