Nor' Easter

In the twilight of the evening
When the amber's turned to blue
I light the day's last cigarette
As my thoughts return to you

Through the smoky haze, the stars come out
To mark the evening sky
The whiskey blossoms in my chest
And I heave a wistful sigh

I do what I've done a thousand times
The sequence is always the same
Remembering the moments of consequence
And softly whisper your name

I go for a walk to clear my mind
Retrace my steps in the beaches dune
Pause for a moment to catch my breath
And curse at the rise of the moon

For I so prefer the darkness
To accompany the sound of the sea
And I wait for the night everlasting
Where once and for all, I'll be free

Each spring's a monotonous repetition
For one not content just to be
Easter's for death and resurrection
For Catholic boys... like me
