Balanced

There is a proper balance
'Tween certainty and doubt
Where one is halfway in
But also halfway out

Where things are not quite literal
Yet can also be so true
For nothing speaks truth as does fiction
So give every story it’s due

For when the scales are imbalanced
Something to be sure isn’t right
And when they're in proper alignment
What you will gain is insight

Yet the scales are forever shifting
As the world spins around on it’s pole
Requiring constant readjustment
As well as an increasing toll

As time passes the balance becomes harder
The doubts become ever less sure
A healthy disbelief in pronouncements
Is the road to the attainable pure

Seek not ever to "know" things
Question the within from without
For there isn’t a life within certainty
All of life is contained in the doubt

Some see certainty as a virtue
And so viewing doubt as a vice
They seek security in acceptance and denial
While ignoring the exhorbitant price

Building a house of cards to the sky
Amidst the winds all around
Never realizing that one can still see the stars
While lying flat on the ground
